Endowment History

On March 2, 1999, the Archdiocese of Washington approved St. John the Evangelist Endowment Fund-Policy #2006. Its purpose is to receive tax deductible contributions (including pledges, grants, matching gifts, wills/trust, memorial of a loved one, and brick project funds)and to allow the interest to be used for the operational and educational needs of the school. The renaming of the Fund was made at the school's 50th Anniversary Celebration to honor our present principal of more than 25 years. The Endowment Fund Brochure [pdf] provides additional information about the history of the fund and current giving opportunities.

On May 17, 2008, the endowment fund celebrated its first $1 Million goal! The new goal is to achieve a $1.5M milestone, projected for 2015. We need your continued support to accomplish this goal!

The Endowment Board continues to manage the Endowment’s assets, as well as raise additional funds. In August of 2008, St. John the Evangelist Church borrowed $150K from the Endowment Fund. This loan [pdf] was made with the approval [pdf] of the Archbishop of Washington and in agreement with the policies governing the fund for a five year period (2008-2013).

The Board also monitors gift and scholarship requests, such as its Ann Nalls $25K Gift Request & Scholarship [pdf] and Anna M. Colella Scholarship.
